RED RECTANGLES

When I took these pictures in Andaluzia I was interested in how these red rectangles with no text should be interpreted.
A local told me it meant ‘private property’ / ‘entry prohibited’.

I was just wondering how these lands could be used in a better way if the signs stated just the opposite: ‘communal property’ / ‘all welcome’.
